Passenger Front Turn Signal Works Sometimes

I am having a somewhat intermittent problem where my passenger front turn signal only works sometimes. The rear blinker still works but blinks at a faster rate. Occasionally the light starts working again in the front temporarily but almost always stops working again.

Does this most likely indicate:

1) a bad bulb
2) corroded socket
3) bad switch?

I am going to be taking my headlights out soon for a angel eyes & LED turn signal install so I will be able to inspect it then. Any suggestions?

It's a pretty common problem for the sockets to corrode over. A wire brush will sometimes clean the contacts, but typically you're going to need to put a new one on. If you can't get it cleaned up I have new ones available HERE.

The little contacts on the inside should look like the ones in the photo below, there is a good chance yours are corroded over.

Thanks guys that was my initial thought I will check it out once I have extracted the headlight unit. Pretty sure my dad had to get one "fixed" at some point.

I cleaned the contacts twice, and put in a new bulb...the prob returned.
I had my fave Asheville Indie replace the 'relay wiring': it has worked prob free
for several years since then. I watched him do it, and it looks easy, watching.

He said they do relay wiring replacements several times a week on older BMWs, fwiw.
All good tips above, and worth doing 'in order'.

Thanks - If the problem still exists after I try the simple stuff I will look into replacing the relay wiring. This may have been what was the problem before. I should go check the service records...

What's the difference between the above vs. this

or how does above fit into the housing with the wiring?

This socket

Is part 3 in this diagram

It is part of the front "additional turn indicator lamp" wiring.

This photo is the wiring for the indicator in the headlamp itself

As seen in this diagram it is part 4

Thanks for the clarification. If I am not mistaken, the OP actually needs the socket for the headlamp. I too have the headlamp turn signal problem where it comes and goes. I will need to purchase that part.
