Preventative maintenance...........
so I'm planning on replacing as much as I need to mechanically and I know that I could replace EVERYTHING I think that's a little extreme. So I'm open to suggestions on what would be good things to replace that could cause a sudden and catastrophic failure of the engine/drivetrain. Things that I can hear coming (Wheel bearings etc) not so concerned about My current list includes Water Pump Thermostat Valve Cover Gaskets All belts |

Without starting WW III, all fluids, including transmission fluid, be changed.

Coolant expansion tank, without exception. Also, have them check the idler and belt tensioner pulleys while the belts are off - bearings start to wear after 100K.

For sure you should replace the water pump, expansion tank, belts, pulleys, thermostat. You should also check the axle boots/seals and the tranny thermostat.

All these mentions of cooling system components, but no mention of hoses. Inspect/change all coolant hoses, particularly if they are soft. And particularly if you are changing pumps and coolant expansion tanks anyway.
What does the oil separator/crankcase ventilation system look like on a 2004 model? If it is like other engine models, I would clean it out, and replace those hoses as well. And flush the brake fluid.

Have them read any/all OBD codes as well for other simmering problems not apparent.

While you are changing the valve cover gaskets, don't forget about the valley pan gasket!

Do you know whether spark plugs and fuel filter have been done previously? If not, those would also be on my list. Not that failure would cause the catastrophic failure you mention however.
Congrats on the purchase!
