My battery is not dead, the lock itself is broken, and by the way my stiffener plate is not on the car, I took it off this summer to clean it...lol!

Why didn't the BMW dealer offer to make you a new remote from the serial number, give your credit card over the phone and have one of the lot attendants drive it out to you? I know this can be done for a Ford product... never tried with the BMW.

I guess there are security concerns with someone calling and claiming to be you.

I called the BMW dealership, they said to pull the door frame away from the car to try and access the central locking button with a clothes hangar or something of that nature. Now of course I'm thinking this will damage the car as the frame is a tight fit, but he said if I had it towed to them that's how they would do it!

Call around for a locksmith. Let them know its an x5 and they will either know exactly how to do it or wont have a clue. They have the tools to get thru the door jamb to hit the central lock and pull the door handle without any damage. And it will be a lot cheaper than breaking a window!

This what I finally ended up doing, I couldn't find a place to purchase the little airbags to pry open the door jam. So I gave up and called a locksmith that had them, took him only about 30 minutes to open the door, take the cylinder out of door and I was on my way $200 lighter in wallet at Xmas time!

He couldn't just use the bladder and hit the central lock button?

$200 is highway robbery. A good emergency road service like AAA will almost always pay for itself.

I always see this and it scares me that my wife will be screwed somewhere one day. I have AAA, but you know those guys can take hours.

Is there a way to retro a door lock cylinder on the pass door. I mean the Euro guys have the drivers door on the other side. I would do this in a heartbeat if it was possible.

Confussed , yes we do have the lock on the other side, but still only one lock.
