I hope it is not - I don't want to spent another $200 )) for what not.
I played a little bit with setting earlier, press up down buttons, circ button, fan all the way up and then down and then it stopped making the noise.
So, I wonder if it will come back again or what to do - what is broken? What needs to be replaced?

Does the noise stop only when you stop the heat or the fan?

I was going to suggest the FSR but that usually makes a whistling sound not a ticking. The FSR controls the fan.

Well, when I turn the fan all the way down - it turns off the whole unit, right and the clicking stops as well. I think it still clicks even if i turn the heater degrees up or down.

What about actual heat and A/C functionality? Are you having any problems like heat is not hot enough or A/C not cold enough?

The heat is working perfect. I did not try the AC since it is winter here in Chicago, but can give it a try later on and see what happens. Overall, I don't think there is a problem with heat or ac.
What do you have in mind?

I hate to say try replacing the FSR without really knowing but ...
I don't think they are expensive but I hate to throw parts at something.

Would you happen to have a buddy with an X you could swap FSRs with?

I was thinking if you had problems with the heater and A/C maybe look at the water valve.

I've never tried this but I think it might help isolate the noise.

Try disconnecting your FSR and see if you still get the noise.

Of course, the FSR might be needed for the offending noise to occur. However, at least you will know if its related to the FSR or not.

Damper motor. Just read it in another thread. I think its the damper motor.

Duke suggested turning on all the directions for the vents, and then turning each one off, on. You might be able to hear it making strange sounds.

Well, for now it seems that it comes and goes. When I played earlier today i pressed the all the buttons for directions, the circ buttons and what not, then turn the fan all the way up and then back down and it stopped ticking. Later when I got in the car it started again after a little drive. By the way I can only hear it when I stop at sign or light, I do not hear it while driving or if radio is on.
Then I went home and in the garage i pressed to high and low fan and it stopped again, so i left it like that for now.
I forgot to mention that it does it when the heater is on. If I turn the AC on - it stops ticking!!!?
I have no idea what it is, but it will drive me nuts eventually. I know one thing for sure - if I go to a mechanic and try to explain to them, it will not make that sound and they will think I'm crazy.
Please keep sharing thoughts... I appreciate it. At this point I don't know if it is FSR or damper motor or what?

update: this morning for several minutes it was not making the ticking sound, but it started at one point. Then I did the ritual from before and pressing different buttons but it did not make it disappear...so I'm still wondering what the hell is that? It does not make it when AC is on, only on heater(no matter what button is pressed) and if I turn the whole unit off by bringing all the way down the fan speed - then the ticking stops.
