Two things. 40C is middle of the range. Using GT1/DIS, it clearly tells you close between 30C-50C after the fluid dripped for at least 1 min. The above should be 42C, but I can't edit posts. No problems thus far.

Below is the link for the process with GT1, I should have taken a pic of where it tells you the temp range. But I was constantly having connection issues with it, and wanted to get more things done before it failed on me again. Anyway 40C is within range, so I'm sure it would be fine as well.

So you actually closed it up at 42C, not 32C? I don't have access to a GT1 so I will be following your directions to the T. Thanks for the info!

Yea 42. BUt I've since done it with IR gun, and closed at 32-35 pointed on the oil dripping out in the fill hole. The difference was in grams. During this temp range it doesn't pour out like crazy.

When I did it by just timing it. I kept it running for 10 min, and I think I passed the temp range, I'm guessing I must have hit around 60C, so then the fluid was really coming out. Like hard core. Don't do this. I had to redo with IR gun because of this.

Recap instructions.
So fill up with car cold, it will start to leak out.
Leave plug open, pump still in place, get in car and start.
Go through gears as per above.
3 sec in each gear.
Leave car running, jump under, and pump in more.
It will overflow and start leaking.
Take out pump and wait till the temp is in the range.
Once in the range, wait for it to leak/drip 1 more min, then close it off.

Those are the exact instructions from the GT1.

Let us know how it goes.

oh yeah. Have rags ready. The dripping is persistent, annoying, and messy. I didn't want to even come my phone or camera.

I too just completed my transmission fluid and filter change. I want to give a big thanks to those in the post!

I have a 2005 4.4 X5 with the 6HP26X transmission. It has the metal pan which means the filler and drain plug are both on the bottom of the pan. The kit that I bought from ESC Tuning came with the wrong drain plug. This would not have been a problem but I broke the plug - don't ask! so I had to get one ordered from my local dealer. I was without my X for a couple of days.

Parts:
7L fluid (BMW)
1 filter
1 filler plug M30x1.5 - 17mm hex - torque 80Nm
1 drain plug M10x1.0 - 5mm hex - torque 12Nm - No parts store had this size.

Prior Issues:
1. at about 40Mph with steady pressure on the gas, it would slip in/out of 5th gear causing a slight hesitation.
2. at quick stop and then start it would be slow to downshift to 1st gear causing the RPMs to rev and then kick into gear. I had to learn to be patient when stopping.
3. 2 second delay into reverse

Thanks to other posts my fluid/filter change went smoothly. Nothing new to add about the proceedure.

My fliud was DARK. I would recommend changing your fluid if you haven't. Since doing the change only gets about half I am going to do it again very soon. Mine had some sludge on the magnets and possibly some gold flakes, but not 100% because i didn't start with a clean drain pan.

Does anyone know of a fairly simple way to do a good flush? Otherwise I'll just do another change from the pan.

In the future I may not buy the kit. I'm going to look around to purchase the fluid somewhere else that is cheaper since that is the main cost of the kit. If I don't find it cheaper then I may purchase this kit from CTS since it is cheaper than ESCtuning Oil change kit for 6HP26x However, note that James at ESC was great and very helpful. I just do not see the point in the extra $88 for their kit.

After doing my X5 and seeing the fluid I will definitely change it in my 325 and 328.

I still have the #1 issue. I haven't driven it enough to see if #2 still shows up. I am a little disappointed because the #1 issues is really annoying and probably means a larger issue will happen.

Thanks again to SlickGt1 and jbond007

Kevin

You might want to visit someone with a DIS/GT1 computer to reset your adaptations, and maybe visit the dealer to get software updates.

I tried the holding gas pedal to the floor for 30-40 seconds. wasn't sure if that worked for a 2005. I didn't notice anything different.

Since I own 3 BMWs I should look into a DIS/GT1 tool. I need to look at suggestions for which tool to purchase.

DIS GT1 would be the tool of choice.

I don't know if you can do updates with it by yourself though.
