Since I own 3 BMWs I should look into a DIS/GT1 tool. I need to look at suggestions for which tool to purchase. Kevin

DIS GT1 would be the tool of choice.
I don't know if you can do updates with it by yourself though.

You can do a relatively "safe" flush by disconnecting and draining at the transmission cooler line while filling it normally at the fill hole with the engine running until you see clear fluids flowing out of the line. That should get most of the old fluids out of the torque converter. This is how my indy did mine a couple of years ago. It did took approx. 12 to 14 liters of fluids to do this.

Getting ready to do this on my 4.8is. I bought this huge replacement drain bolt. It looks like it requires a 17mm or 19mm male hex/Allen key to turn this. Is this the right drain plug or is there another?

I was under the impression you could get the trans temp reading by going through the DIS procedures for checking or filling the trans fluid. Can someone who has done this with DIS confirm? It seems so critical to the process, I can't imagine BMW would leave it to every mechanic to have a hand held pyrometer to measure temp at some randomly chosen point on the trans. I do plan to go through the level check procedure in DIS within the next month or so. When I do, I'll snag some screen shots. Would be good to know beforehand though
