OP, if you can't figure it out. take your VINumber to the BMW dealer and they can give the exact color from the records for that car. you may be able to just call them.

Now that I think about it... I think car fax can also give you the color

Yes yes, I know all that, of course I can't figure it out thats why I asked the question.. 'Is there a simple way of telling?'

Its on the dash close to the winshield. In the US its on the driver side or left. You look thru the windshield to see the plate
