Have you tried putting the original disc in and reloading that then retrying the upgrade. Furthermore disconnect the battery, let the whole thing go dead then connect it back and see if you can get something. I doubt you've bricked it

On your future retries, I suggest that you hook up a batterie charger under the hood to keep the voltage to >12V. Set it to 12A or so.
If voltage goes too low, like in the 11 volts during the update, the data on the communication bus may become unreadable, and causing weird things. |

I've heard that MkIV is quite hard to brick by programming (unlike some older models, MKIII I guess). I would start by disconnecting battery for an extended period (like 1 hour) and trying again. You may need to try different SW version in the middle since you cannot program the same SW version that's already installed. Partial install may be recognized as updated already.
