Luxury BMW SUV so why? door handles frozen on 4.4i

I am the only person in my neighbourhood to own a £50k car, so why was I the only person today to have to get into my car from my boot and climb over the seats just because the temperature went to -5 deg?

Its not a very good advert for BMW.

Sorry for the rant everyone.

My fav is

BMW = bring money will ya

As for the door handles, most/some posters have indicated that its to do with frozen water being on the parts. The solutions I've seen are usually a variant on getting rid of the popsicle effect.

Mine opened w/o problem at -30C a couple weeks back. I try to ensure I don't wash the X at least a couple days prior to cold snaps...that's a recipe for stuck doors and handles! I noticed they were a bit harder to open than normal (I guess expected at that temp) so I plan to shoot some silicon lube onto the latch and handle release mechanisms this weekend. Haven't done that in the 7 years I've owned it but figure it's about time.

I'll save you the pouring through hundreds of posts on this and various tries to fix...

Get some pure antifreeze and put it in a spray bottle. Pop the little cap off inside the door (open door look about handle high and you'll see it). Spray liberally....don't be shy. I have tried many things, short of taking door apart, and this is the only one I have found that consistently works.

I am using wd40 to lube the doorhandles and locks for years. (also on my old e46, alfa romeo's)

Allmost never had a problem.

BMW = Break My Wallet

WD40 = Water Displacement

This might be a good idea to try to get residual moisture out of the mechanism.
