Might want to consider a subscription to a service like AAA. You could just get that and make sure its the highest level membership (there are 3 levels). I think its like $150 and has many benefits.

One of the benefits is you get a free tow up to 200 miles (I think once per year). Unlimited towing up to 100 miles free, otherwise you pay per mile for each mile over 100 miles.

Then you could get at least those additional benefits if you were going to pay for the tow anyways.

Have the dealer diagnose and see where you stand from there. If you trust that shop with 30 years experience I would go try the dealer route. Might save you time/money finding the root of the problem(s).

Good luck.

BTW ... killcrap on your other thread had a suggestion. Might want to try it. If you didn't already know, he's a BMW mechanic that has a lot of experience.

He wanted to try a brain and both AutoLogic and BMW said that a 2001 was too new to be reprogrammed. A new brain was around $1300.

He did take it out today and said he got it up to 80MPH, but there were also times were it just wouldn't go at all. I'm going to drive it home through the country tomorrow. He did check the connectors for water damage.

Seems like it should be such an easy fix...

Any more tips for me to use for when I get the thing back home?
