Damaged Backup Sensor
I'm also taking the instrument cluster out of my Ford Explorer tonight. There's a video and it is surprisingly easy. I need to replace those little bulbs that light everything up. The dealer wants $200 plus to change 5 little bulbs. I know, I know 2 hrs labor at $100/hr.

Front or rear bumper? The rear sensor holders are a little finicky, especially the corner ones. The rears have one half on the back that mates with the front part. They don't always click together easily. You should be able to reach up from underneath the bumper.

It's the rear bumper, right side rear inside.
I picked one up at my handy BMW dealer. it looks like it just snaps in the bumper skirt then the sensor slips in the plastic holder. Or maybe install the sensor in the holder and then snap it in the bumper skirt. I really haven't had a chance to study it much and the parts guy was no help.
