Good point on the 'reliability' versus 'durability' JCL
I do find myself repairing or replacing stupid little things that "I know" I wouldn't be if this had been a Lexus. But that's just it! It's not like anything else and I wouldn't swap it for anything else... I'll just put up and shut up with those stupid little "incidentals" that occur. I guess if you want an analogy its just like drinking alcohol... I love doing it, I hate the hangover but I deal with it. hahaha My plan is to keep the 53 till its done 200,000 km's, I'll pass it down to my parter so she can take it for family duties and I will reward myself with an X5 M which will only do light mileage and duties.

Its you that was the first to mention either of these words. I just am angling for those that like their Xs enough to keep em on the road and in the interest of "bragging" who has a lot of miles. Oil change is cheap insurance. since my engine has run flawlessly except for exploding CCV and Oil Housing Gasket (which have nothing to do with oil life). I'm not recommending that anyone else shorten their OCI. Just me my engine responds to fresh oil in the butt feel area and I like that. Mobil1 0-40 can go 15,000 miles and I must say I have even gone 10 to 12K when I just didn't have the time to change it. I don't think any engine has failed more from over maintaining. Back when American engines were toast at 80,000 miles on 3000 OCI my father-in-law always got 150K to 200K out of chevy novas, buicks, oldsmobiles, chevy pick up engines without overhaul. he absolutely stuck to a 2000 mile OCI. when the manny recommended 3000. from what I've read, I do think oil has a peak performance period and it begins to decline at some point before the recommended OCI but, it is still in the range of serviceable. So, I think changing at around 7000 miles makes me feel like it's good insurance. This is just me others do other things that may work just as well. A thread like this is to discuss what is outside the realm of normal, including abnormal, anal, obsessive compulsive owners. Like me.

So, Who wants to talk about their high miles X. We've gotten off track.
Who has 250K, who is approaching it, who wants to get there, Who has more? This is meant to be fun. So far one person declared his X dead at 150,000 and everyone else is making mountains out of molehills. I might be the only one that is happy fixing my X every weekend and what motivates me is the quest for 300,000. I'm a dreamer. Don Quixote is my favorite play, who would like to slay a wind mill?

Part of the reason for wanting to persevere with this particular car is the fact that the interior and body are in like new excellent condition. I was thinking a few months ago that my X was developing rattles and handling problems, and maybe wouldn't go 300k.
I had the suspension over hauled with all the right bushing etc and it now handles better than I remember. So now that I've worked on and repaired a whole lot of other stuff plus service the trans and the engine etc etc made me think if I can keep the engine and trans running smooth then I have a good shot at a 300,000 mile car that still is pleasurable to drive.
