Do you remember the color of the original relay? I'll have my guys see if they can find them for anyone else that needs them.
Yes, if you can, please find all of them. Hella or Seimans please. I wan't all 6 relays from the trunk replaced.

The ones in question were purple. If you guys can make a kit, I am sure people will order them. The factory ones are shitty.

Ok, I figured I would update. My electrician friend came by today. Right off the bad, he said the relays that our cars have are garbage and need to be replaced to either a Seimans or Hella brand. Then it turned out that one of the relays, the "supposed K70" according to his diagrams, not the Bentley manual, which is the one closest to the tail light, was sticking and causing the issues. He had a Seimans relay that he plugged in and right away, everything went back to normal. So problem solved, and I guess I have to return all the stuff that I purchased for no reason.

Now, that same relay, also controls the air suspension. Which leads me to believe that quite a few people seeing problems with their air, should also replace. I am going to see if ECSTuning has all of the relays, and replace all of them. The ones we have in there are just shitty, and according to him, he always sees them fail, always.

It was odd that it was the first thing he said when he saw my car, and fixed the issues in literally 2 minutes. So thumbs up for another free fix.

P.S. He tested the relay as soon as he removed it, and it functioned fine. As a matter of fact, he plugged it back in just for shits, and everything worked. He still threw that shit out because according to him, it is just not worth the risk. He also said that these relays are in the American BMWs. Not the ones made in Germany.
Have to give a big thanks for the update to this thread because it turned out to work for me.

Yesterday evening, I opened the tailgate on my 06 X5...but when I went to close it...the soft close feature didn't kick in and the latch wouldn't catch and close. Since it was too dark to do anything, I waited until today to see what was up. I found another DIY that discussed removing the lower trim on the tailgate to access the latch/actuator. After undoing the 4 screws and 8 clips...my actuator was different than that DIY poster so it didn't work.

Here's a link to the first DIY that didn't work for me: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-lock-fix.html

I had pulled fuse 82 & 84 (rear cargo area) for the tailgate & soft close feature to make sure they weren't blown and they were okay.

Since the above was a bust...I did another search and found this thread were pulling the relay fixed the issue. I pulled the last relay (purple one closest to the tail light) and then reinserted it...then actuated the tailgate using the button on the remote key...and all of a sudden the sound the tailgate makes when the soft close feature catches and closes the tailgate occured. I then pressed the unlock button on the remote key...then tried closing the tailgate and the soft close feature grabbed the tailgate and closed it.

Again, thanks for updating this thread as to what worked for you. I was putting things back together to go order a new $300 tailgate actuator...but wound up with a free fix.

The purple relay at the far right in pic below is the one I pulled and reinserted:

Of course those Tyco relays are made cheap, that 100 million Dennis Koslowski stole from Tyco had to come from somewhere!
