My 2004 4.8is with 58K KMs. Replaced both front CV boots, alternator, right side swing bar, other than these, nothing significant. Just go for it.

Hi and welcome. I have an '05 4.8iS with 70k mi. I bought in '09 with 50k. It had the CPO warranty until August of last year. Had a few things replaced under warranty that seem to be normal fare up to this mileage range (air struts, bluetooth unit, suspension parts). Right now I have an occasional transmission jerk when cold, but other than that still a pleasure to drive. For tires I opted for the Vredestein as I could deal with a summer tire year round. Price was about $1200 for the set installed IIRC and looks like they (at least the rears) are lasting me exactly 2 years, probably 16k miles. Other than installing the trailer hitch, not much I personally DIY on her as I have an indie mechanic I use. I think about getting rid of her before the transmission blows up, but can't think of anything for the money that I'd rather drive. I like the wolf in sheep's awesome clothing aspect.

I am new to this forum and was hoping to get some feedback before I make my purchase.

I have always loved the 4.8is and found one (75K miles on it) that seems to be in good shape. I will be the 3rd owner of this car. I do plan on taking it to a BMW dealership for a prepurschase inspection, prior to pulling the trigger.

I have done much research and know that with this sort of mileage will, there is a good chance I may incur problems with the transmission and air suspension, but wanted to see if any current owners had any feedback.

I would appreciate any and all feedback.

Thanks!

Stephen

I will be getting rid of mine soon...after 4 years, it has "served its purpose."

You got to spend at least $5-$6k a year to keep the X running trust me
I owned the 4.8is for two years As much I love her as much I hate her
As much is going to put a smile on your face on the road you got be crying in the mechanic shop
But was all worth it it's the best vehicle I ever owned
I'm driving 2010 e550,I'm not feeling half the joy I used to feel and my 4.8is

You are really scaring me Mike? I get my 4.8Is on Tue and in the 16 days while the truck is being shipped, I read so much and now not looking forward to getting her. As much as I admire this beast, the constant maintenance and the above avg possible things that can go wrong are turning me off! I'm seriously considering getting rid of the truck as soon as it gets here! And it really sucks having to do that!

Completely agree except for the "all worth it it's the best vehicle I ever owned"

Having the Cayenne Turbo opens my eyes on how solid a truck really should be.

Dunno, maybe our old E53s are different, at least for some of us.
Counting tires, rear brakes, normal oil/fluid changes, etc., and less than a handful of minor 'repairs', I don't think I've spent that much on our '01 in 11.5 years, total.

What mileage you had when you had the truck?
My 4.8is has 62k miles. I have spent $1700 in last 12 months.
Air suspension
Brake pads and rotors.
Bulbs, etc. etc.
