replacing fuel tank ??

Hi All,
I will be changing the fuel tank shortly, Do I need to dismantle any
sections of the propshaft or the exhaust ??
Looking at the BMW tis there is no mention of either of the above

I don't think you will be able to get the tank out without removing the exhaust or the drive shaft, and possibly much more.

I know that taking off the cover, to get to the fuel filter, you can't even take that out all the way without removing the exhaust.

So get some exhaust gaskets, it applicable.

Just been under the car and seen that they do have to come off! I will take my time with it, not in any hurry to get it done!

The exhaust gasket for the back box sections is actually a metal ring which should be ok to re-use .
The bolts joining the sections will probably snap when you loosen them and cost a few pounds each . You can re-use the springs over the bolts .

Whilst you have all that stuff removed it would be prudent to close inspect for rust or loose paint on the body especially at spot welds , seams and at the subframe mounts .
There may be only small spots of rust visible where the paint has suffered stone chips or there will most likely be no sign of rust but maybe small blisters in the paint .
Picking at the small blisters will usually mean a much larger area of paint will peel away .

Fresh primer and paint applied by brush is least messy and spray waxoyl over after paint has cured for a couple of weeks . Waxoyl takes weeks to cure properly .

I will do as you suggested, I have notice rust in places underneath the car therefore I would assume that there will be rust on the paintwork that would normally be hidden!
prevention is better than the cure

Also remove the heat shields to inspect the body
A pic of the extent to which the paint can peel
A wire brush on a flexi shaft is effective . Wear good goggles and a dust mask .
