Resolution..
Hey Guys,
Sorry, I did not come back here to post about the resolution. It took the useless transmission 'expert' 6 months to figure out what was wrong with it and I just completely forgot about my posting here, I was very tired and angry. After replacing and trying everything, including an old transmission module, ABS module etc. , the idiot decided to take my transmission another shop that does better testing (under pressure with some sort of paint pressured inside the transmission to see any leaks) and they found out (like everybody else suspected here) the problem was internal. The transmission would look good and pass regular pressure tests (at least thats what the transmission guy told me) but once it heats up the leak would start. They replaced everything inside the transmission and I did not have any issues for a while now (4 months+). Of course I will never go back to that transmission guy again.. Please let me know if you have other questions.. Cheers, Ozzie

Resolution
Wow, thanks for the reply. My problem is slightly different but your answer makes me want to get at least an estimate on a replacement/rebuild. Sorry you had to go through that but I'm glad there was a final solution. In my case I would get the transfail message after driving all over town with frequent stops and starts. When I got the message I would reset with my tool and be able to get home. After another reset and a night's rest the error would go away. It seems these cars are so sensitive electronically. Recently I just got the DSC ABS 4X4 error and groaning from the rear. After a reset this went away too but I know a problem exists I just don't know if they are related. I'm still checking. Thanks again for the reply.

Your comment made me wonder about if your ABS module is healthy. It may be overheating eventually to cause your issues. I have done A LOT of research and ABS module is involved closely in gear process.
New ABS modules are a bit costly but you can always got yours rebuilt, many available on the internet, I got mine done (although there were no problems coming up after testing, they did it anyways) for $150. I believe Modulemaster.com is one of the good places to get it done. You send in your module (you can drive your car carefully without the module for a couple of days), it gets tested and if there are problems and if its repairable, they take care of it and send it back.. Please let me know if you have questions.. Cheers, Ozzie

I wondered about that. I have had my wife's E39 ABS unit rebuilt from module masters with no issues 2 years now.
