you will get a mileage tamper error unless you get it recoded at the dealer (who will typically not recode a cluster not purchased from them)

I picked this up from my MB E320 forum, but I have never used the services.

That said, there are some services that advertise on Ebay that claim they can repair the cluster, for example

BMW INSTRUMENT SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER DASH REPAIR E38 740i 750iL E39 525 530 540 M5 | eBay

If link is broken try searching Ebay for

BMW INSTRUMENT SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER DASH REPAIR

This is one way to go if you are trying to repair the pixels in your existing cluster, but I do not believe this service can code a cluster for you that did not originally come from your vehicle.

Agree. I am assuming OP still has the original cluster.

The pixel problem can be repaired DIY although it's not an *easy* DIY. Search my old posts, I did it last year. On my phone ATM and too tricky to find the link...

completely false information provided by UCrewX5. if anyone needs a used instrument cluster wiped out to read zero, and to over write the vin and sia data to a blank state, you may contact me. only then can you encode the instrument cluster to the vehicle sucessfully.
