Major problems with door locks

My problem started with a very normal X5 problem, door handle carrier. drivers side front. In an ice storm a few weeks ago, I pulled the handle and "pop" - i know the symptom, its out of the carrier. External handle on drivers door is sitting a bit popped out. not major, thanks to xoutpost I can fix myself.

While awaiting the part and the time to repair, I was simply using the remote roll down the window, reaching in and grabbing the handle, or just holding the key in the lock to accomplish the same. or have my wife reach across and open the drivers door. no problem

now something totally weird has gone on. I can't use the key in the lock cylinder, it feels disengaged from the guts. It turns freely, with no type of click or anything.
Now, from the inside, the doors will not lock. they all in the unlock position. using the remote and the lock buttons, does not unlock or lock any doors. Just dead. Rear hatch will not open at all.

Where do I go? I've searched on here and checked my labour guides and am not sure where to begin. If i'm lucky there's just a common fuse for locks and rear hatch module but that seems odd.

Central locking module? if so where is it?
relay?

Stumped
please point me in a direction xoutposters

Thx

This one time I'd disconnected the battery to reset the computer in my old E39 and by mistake the trunk closed. I was stuck and couldn't do anything about it.

I had two keys the spare key and the master key of course. The spare key didn't work when trying to unlock and lock. The master key worked like a charm even with the battery disconnected. Locked and unlocked normally from the trunk and drivers door

I know this isn't the same case but worth trying if you aren't already using the original key. Also why not try and reprogram the remote key? You never know might get lucky!

Sorry for not being able to help much

The doors are already in the unlocked position, and they open and close as needed. the trunk hatch does not open despite being in the unlocked setting and the central lock./unlock button on the console is not working.

Essentially i can't open the trunk and I can't lock the X through any method

Over a month later and i'm finally repairing. Still need some help from the pros on here

I have disassembled the drivers side front door, to first replace the carrier. Did in fact find the old carrier to be broken, so that should solve the handle opening problem.

Before reinstalling I was messing with the key lock, on the bench. The key does not turn the stem on the lock. I assume this means i need a new lock cylinder assembly, and from what i gather takes a few weeks to be keyed to my x5?

I removed the door lock actuator, and it does not move up and down when I grab the post (the part that comes through the top of the door panel) - I believe this means i need a new actuator?

Need any help you can provide. I want to put this thing back together asap
