rebuilt turbocharger for 3.0 diesel

My fellow X5 E53 diesel owners,

Anyone of you guys have replaced your turbocharger with a rebuilt one ? How much is the estimated cost to get one and which source did you get it ? Buying a new one is quite expensive so considering getting a rebuilt one. Please share your comments......

Even some Bmw dealers, sell you a rebuilt one, thats why they accept your old one and give you a credit for that, provided they do the work and install it.Your old turbo will then be rebuilt and sold off as "newly rebuilt turbo".
It is as good as new, because a turbo has 3 main parts.the inlet ,exhaust outlet and the core, the part in the middle which has the turbines and seals, bearings that break and or wear out. This is the part in always "new" in a rebuilt turbo, the other two parts are nearly always good as new and just get a good sanblast and look like "new " again. After the turbo is put back together again,it needs to be balanced on a V-machine,at upto 100,000 rpm and ready to be fit in the engine.
Dont know the condition of your turbo and why you want to get another one,but if its any help ,I use Turboactive in Uk for all stock turbos and hybrid .Since you are replacing your turbo, you may as well get a facelift unit ,its bigger and costs about the same.
