What happened to this X5 ?

I have just bought a second hand 2003 X5 mileage is 98K 4.4i.

I am just looking at it's service history which is complete , however there is one big job on there that had the following replaced in one go around 10k miles ago.

Power Steering Pump.
Alternator
Water Pump
Water Hose
Fan Belt & Belt tensioner

Any idea what would have caused all these things to have to be replaced at once ?

Also any pointers on stuff I should get done now to stop problems later.

I am close to a gearbox specialist , should I have the fluid changed or just leave it ?

One thing I have noticed is a shuddering under braking from the front, it has already had offside CV join and control arm done around 15K miles ago, I am guessing nearside will need doing now.

Other thing I have noticed is a bang from the back when picking up power from slowing down under moderate acceleration, nothing major but can definitely feel it , would this be a suspension component that needs replacing.

Thanks

Mark

Well, those things that were replaced seems like they failed within normal limits except the power steering pump. The only thing that I can think of is the bearings seized or the pump ran out of fluid and burned up. Otherwise, no worries.

At this point, I would check on the thermostat, valley pan gasket, OSV, valve cover gaskets, new plugs.

Do a search on this and you will find everything under this section that gives its pros and cons.

The shuddering could be a number of things. If it is under braking, the rotors may be warped. If the control arm was done, were the tie rods, wing supports, and wishbone done as well. All of those have ball joints and are subject to heavy wear.

Other thing I have noticed is a bang from the back when picking up power from slowing down under moderate acceleration, nothing major but can definitely feel it , would this be a suspension component that needs replacing.

That BANG noise, also could be a number of things. Either the subframe bushing are shot or the chain in the TC has some slack and when you accelerate, thats the bang you are hearing and feeling. Need a little more info on this. Does this noise happen from a stop then a launch?
Thanks

Mark
Other wise, good luck with her. And post some pictures!

Yes from a stop and then launch , not under normal driving.

Perform a search on the TC and check the symptoms of it and see if they match. I have a feeling it will.
