My rear wiper on the X5 (2004 E53 4.8IS) stopped working (washer pump is ok). Ordered a new (second hand) motor assembly from eBay and plugged it in and lo and behold its operating straight away with no key in the ignition and the lever not switched.

Turned the ignition on and switch into the 'on' position to operate the rear wiper and by the time I have walked from the front of the car to the back there is smoke coming from the circuit board on the motor assembly, taken the cover off to confirm my fears, sadly my soldering skills are not as good as they used to be (
