Had this problem on the E70 this year. Handles would open, but would need to be pushed back in. I was stunned, for an expensive car it was unacceptable.

FIX:

I bought a 3-pack of WD-40 at Costco. At the parking lot there, I opened a can and sprayed it into the door handle assembly, and along the edges of the handle. Basically everything that wasn't painted. Didn't bother actually spraying the actual latch, but all of the handles are FIXED!!

Had this happen to me just this past week, in a bit of a rage, I yanked really hard, and the door opened, but reading now, I will have to add another item to the long checklist of routine maintenance, as to avoid serious damage. Thanks for the tips.

I know!..I'll definitely keep you informed...I'm praying that this issue is resolved..So is my pocket book...Can't believe I have to actually drop 5 bills for a stupid door handle that BMW won't recall...ridiculous.

Ok guys..I got my X back from the dealer yesterday who replaced my frozen door handle carrier. We've had major freezing rain and sleet last night and all during today. There was ice all over the car including the door handles. It was about 2 degrees this morning, I pulled the door handle and the door opened perfectly. There was ice all over the door handle, and inside it. I've driven the X at lunch and the door handle opens the door like a champ. No frozen latch, no struggling to open it..nothing. So yes, the new updated part at the dealer works to perfection. It will run you about $500 to do it. Just fyi..

Does anyone know about this being a CPO or Manufacturer warranty?

They will replace it if your X is still under factory warranty I believe... But I'm not sure about CPO.
