slick, good stuff.

Does the pulley for the N62 have a woodruff key? be sure to insert it properly.

It has a pin, and I think that is what its called. Mine did not come out from the flange. So it was that much simpler. As a matter of fact, the new balancer fit in very nice and tight on that key. So much so that it held the balancer in place while I picked up the bolts from the floor.

I'll try to upload some pics today, but have to be honest, its very hard to tell from them, the condition of the rubber in between.

Great thread. Something happened to my AC Belt tensioner on my '06 X5 causing it to dig into my crank pulley- will use this thread if I need to replace said crank pulley.

As a back story, I removed my AC Belt and pulley to get rid of the noise from the worn out bearing in my AC Compressor's clutch.

Would love to see pics Slick.

Your description looks like something I am looking at on my own crank pulley.

Oh man i thought I did the pics. I have to find them or the balancer. On my car, if you were below it looking up at the balancer, you can clearly see it wobble. It was deff not round.

Rolling it on the floor, looked fine. On the car, at idle, wobbled like crazy.

Thanks Slick, that was the next thing I was gonna ask.

My own pulley does not look wobbly from the top, but I noticed a bit of rubber peeking out between the inner and outer pulley body.

Also, I'm of the impression the engine could stand to be smoother.

Yea you cannot tell from the top at all. It is just too far, and you can't see it in relation to the belts and other stationary parts.

Take the plastic off from the bottom. Start the car and look at it from there. You will see if it wobbles right away. You will even see the belts move from there.

Gotcha, thanks for letting us know what to look for, now on the list to check out.

Wish the list gets shorter instead of longer though!

Take off damper, replace damper
This is akin to the "and then a miracle occurs" cartoon from the New Yorker (ages ago).

I've had to remove the center bolt from a few cars, not one has been simple or easy. One was darn near impossible and had me standing (yes, standing) on a 3/4 inch drive breaker bar bouncing up and down to get it to break free. On another, I used the starter motor as an impact wrench with the breaker bar against the concrete garage floor. Not elegant, but successful.

Sooooo, how did you get the bolt off the X5 crank pulley?
