Whine from my engine (3.0), no loss in performance or SES light, what is it?

I have a distinct whine coming from my engine at idle, and when taking off from a stop you can hear it as well as the RPM's go up. It's especially noticeable in lower gears. I've been reading DISA valve, but that supposedly goes away when you unplug it? I thought I unplugged it last night when the car was running (the plug right next to the DISA valve), and nothing happened.

The sound is almost like something is leaking, but not quite. I looked at the top of my intake too and didn't see any cracks, the truck only has 63k on it.

I have been on top of maintenance since buying the X, regular oil changes, just had both belts and tensioners replaced, as well as idler pulley. The sound is not coming from the front of the motor, more along the top and the driver side. I was wondering if anyone had any input. The only other thing I can think of is a dirty air filter, it needs to be cleaned.

I guess I am more confused that there is no check engine light thrown or no noticeable loss of performance. Thanks for any help 3.0 guys!

Ricky, would you be able to do a video and post it. It's hard to amagine the sound by reading it.

Probably sounds like a super charger. My Alternator does it too on a 4.8is though. Has done that since November of last year, and has not worsened or eased up. Waiting for it to die.

Just had that replaced with the belts and tensioners 2 months ago!

I haven't been at my house the last few days (air conditioning work at my house, staying at my in laws) so I haven't driven my truck, but I did clean my air filter and reinstall over the weekend, so next startup I will record a video on the iPhone and send to the members to upload. PM me with an email to send the vid too!

I had similar issue...found out that tensioner needed to be replaced. I got the belts replaced at the same time and everything is back to normal.
