I did a muffler delete on mine. The drone did get annoying after a while, so i went back and put some silencers to quiet it down a little. It sounds good, but its not really that loud.

I think a muffler delete would be great on a 3.0. Would give you more volume but not change the tone.

I doubt there will be much drone or that I'm just used to a lot of drone. The Britalman system on my E39 droned enough to rattle everything on the car, including the vents! Just gotta keep the car above 2k RPM and that drone will be gone.

Your usual suspects (Remus, Supersprint, Eisenmann, etc.) do have bolt-on mufflers for the e53, which still keeps the stock resonator. But they are expensive. I don't think I've seen a complete catback system (with an X-pipe) that replaces the resonator though.

anyone have any thoughts on this? i'm guessing it's just a 4.4i exhaust with the 'black tips' option..

I put 4.4i exhaust on mine. Got the tips with 4.4i mufflers, and resonator delete with x-pipe. IMHO x-pipe made absolutely no difference at all. I did the 4.4i just for the quad tips look.

man XVII for that price i'd have a shop make you something custom. I've had entire exhaust systems mandrel bent from manifold back for less than those 2 sections.
