ANOTHER iPod/iPhone thread

Hey guys - Please don't hate - i searched but could not find any reference to this particular Part from BMW

BMW X5 iPod Interface Adapter at Dealerfit.com

BMW Interface for Apple iPod - X3 SAV 2005-2010/ X5 SAV 2005-2006/ Z4 Models | eBay

It shows as being compatible with the 05-06 E53 and will allow control of the iPod through the Stereo Controls (With nav?)

Has anyone looked at, or questioned, or even purchased this?

I'd be willing to pay the extra premium for control of my iPhone through the steering wheel (as opposed to the AUX input)

Cheers - Let me know your experiences

That interface is more trouble than it is worth. get a Dice Media Bridge and be done with it. Controls perfectly and steering controls work flawlessly.

Have you guys got anymore details on this?

I very much want to stick with OEM products - and had a look at the DICE and didn't particularly like its integration..

Sorry I don't have experience with those products as I only have the AUX input cable, but when I buy something online, and the vendor doesn't show pictures of the product, I'm a bit scared. In those listings, only the Ipod connector is shown.
How big is the control box? Is it made of plastic or aluminum? what kind of wiring they use, the smallest possible to save cost?, or something bigger that can be handled without fear of breaking it?.

IMHO, you should follow the suggestions of board members, they went that route before.

When I did my search for an iPod/iPhone integration system for my X5, I was shocked that the system from the BMW dealership was limited and about 1k for a full integration with installation. After much research, I found the full integration system that I was looking for on eBay and saving roughly $700. I was and had a lot of speculation regarding purchasing this unit and wondering about it's full functionality. As my re-search brought me back to the BMW dealership, they didn't even know of the DICE integration system existed and couldn't answer all my questions I had regarding installation of satellite radio and a iPod/iPhone integration from the dealer saying that "I was limited and it would be spendy".

I completed my research on the full DICE integration system and purchased it from an eBay member who owned a stereo shop, I asked him many questions, he backed the product and said if I didn't like it, he'd refund my money 100%. I had a professional shop install it per the warranty from which I purchased the system from. It's an easy install (Plug & Play system) The units firmware is easily updated by your laptop, a USB to micro USB adapter to the SC-C1 unit from your wireless laptop using DICE's support and update menu for the model purchased.

I've installed the DICE Sirius unit and SC-C1 integration system into my 2004 X5 3.0L with DSP but without a Nav or CD changer system (But have a separate Single CD player in dash and LOVE IT! I have full integration of the steering wheel buttons for Satellite Radio, iPod/iPhone, CD and FM Radio.

They make a unit that supports use of the NAV system if you have it. Either way if you have a a model with a separate CD changer, it may have to be removed in order for this integration to be installed properly.

Why pay a high dollar (3rd party) for a BMW factory use integration system when you can purchase it for cheaper without paying dealer prices and installation? My $0.02's worth.

I've been nothing but happy with this systems full use of Sirius radio and it's integration of the iPod/iPhone cable from unit. It's easily hidden and also charges during operation.

It's obvious I can't say enough about it.

In the beginning DICE had some issues with it's set up and usage, While they were working out all the bugs and testing the new firmware, updates were announced and installed as needed. Since... I have yet to install another update in 8mo. checking frequently. However, they are all about the customer! Taking care of any installation issues or of it's integration operation. It looks like DICE was just purchased by Audiovox. I'm hoping that the same support that I received by dealing with DICE direct hasn't changed.

Since my last Firmware updates and working with them, I have yet to see any minor link issues regarding my Satellite Radio linking or loss of settings to stations. I've never had any issues regarding iPod/iPhone usage.

It's important that you know your current system before "Just" purchasing an integration system. You need to know if you have NAV or not, DSP or not, CD Changer or not etc. There are types of units specifically made for having or not having those items. Of course YEAR/Make and Model of your vehicle

DICE Electronics - DUO - iPod, iPhone, Internet Radio car integration

eBay; http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_kw=BMW+DICE

Best of luck in your decision.

Mud~

Thanks for the input guys - My main reason for not wanting to go DICE or Intravee is that I want to keep the CD Changer, and I really would rather stay OEM at this stage - just a personal thing, I've had aftermarket stuff before, and am loving just having everything as BMW intended at this stage..
