Newbie introduction

Just wanted to say hi as I am new to this forum. I drive a 2007 BMW 335i as my daily driver, and race a 2002 BMW Z3 3.0 in SCCA STR autocross where I will be soon to be competing at Nat'ls in Lincoln, NE, next month. My wife and much better half drives a 2005 BMW X5 4.4L which right now is having some issues. I joined to get some information as to what is going on and why, and have found the site to be very informative. While she has loved her truck which she bought CPO, she is pretty bummed about the most recent service visit which has produced estimates for CV boots, battery/alternator, and a few other items.

I guess it is time for me to buckle up and get a Bentley for her beast and start taking care of it as I do my Z.

Hopefully, I'll have something to contribute over the next few months.

Clark

Welcome. Skip the dealer, and go find a reputable indy. Your price will be half.

Or you could become like the rest of us, and just DIY. They are fairly straight forward to work on.

Welcome to the best car/stuff board on the net, imo...cool on the SCCA AX; did it back in the '70s when it wasn't quite as organized and well run as it seems to be now.

Agree on the Indie, esp for a 2nd opin after a dlr list of 'recommended 'service'.

Isn't it remarkable how these little glitches and needed repairs pop up on 'CPO' cars?
Good Luck, mD

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm not hesitant to start working on the car as my Z has very little OE parts remaining and all that's been changed has been at my hands. I'll get a shop manual and start down the path using some of the threads here.

As everyone else has stated, do what you can yourself. It sounds like you can probably do about everything and I'd bet you have an awesome set of tools. Most of the typical maintenance stuff has been discussed and detailed here. Everything from oil changes to a transmission rebuild.
