The torque spec is 44 ft lbs front and rear (O-ring seal style), if you have a washer style plug in the rear, tq that one to 48 ft lbs. I reused the plug washer and torqued to 50 ft lbs to get a good seal. No leak.

Anyone know the torque spec for the bolts (drain and fill)? Is it going to be the same as the transfer case which is 24 lb/ft?

Make sure you buy new reinforcement plat bolts after you remove the plate to drain the front diff.

The 6 bolts for the bottom engine plate. Which you have to remove for the front diff. The bolts are torque to yield, and need to be tightened to yield. Obviously the bolts cannot be reused when properly tightened.

Thanks Slick, yep I know the ones, though I don't know why these have to be torqued to yield, the plate isn't sealing anything..

RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 4.8is Frnt axle support,wishbone/tension strut Qty 6 - 31101096987 - bolts Qty 6 - 33306760587 - nuts ![]() Part #4 in the picture. You need to replace the bolts because once you torque them to spec, you need to twist the bolts a full 90 degrees. This stretches the bolt locking it into place. If you re-use your old bolts, you would need to turn them, an additional 90 degress or 180 total from when they were originally used.
