Secondary Air Pump Question

Greetings all,

How long is this secondary pump supposed to run for on cold starts? I believe mine is going to shits because it ran this morning for less than 10 seconds and immediately I got a "secondary maf sensor code". I don't have a secondary maf because my X is pre-facelift. I just recently replaced the valve and all hoses associate with the valve and the pump, including the filter.

Any reply will be greatly appreciated.

I've never timed it but 10-20 seconds sounds about right.

I suspect if you have the code then you have the secondary MAF sensor. Check your connection to the sensor.

Part number is 11721438814 (#8 in the diagram) if you need new sensor.

Thanks for your reply rayxi, but I do not have the secondary maf. Secondary mafs are from production 10/03 and up, mine is 05/02. I have this set up:

I replaced #s 6,7,11 and the valve with entire vacuum hose.

my secondary air pump is out and the code i get on my peake reader is F5 and F6, secondary air system flow too low on both banks. that egr valve just to the right of hose #11 is usually the culprit of frying the pump. i even fixed my air pump and had it running, reinstalled and it froze up again and blew the fuse. when i took it back out it was full of water, which was the condensation being blown back into the pump because that egr valve was stuck open. i am now going to replace the egr valve and try it all again. if your pump is still running maybe the valve is starting to fail.

sir if you read the thread, I replaced the valve already and I didn't need to cuz my old one is still good. Let me know if you want it, just pay for shipping.

Strange you would get that code if you don't have the MAF. What was the actual code number?

The pump should run about 1:30 min.

Ok, that doesn't specifically indicate a MAF problem. My guess is a vacuum problem upstream of the valve since you replaced the hose and valve already.

Try a cold start with the hose disconnected to see if you are getting suction at the end of. The hose. If not then it may be the solenoid or a section of hose further upstream.

I read this in a thread on here and tried it. I did get a suction. This is when I proceeded to disconnect the hose from the secondary pump on the next cold start and the pump only ran for about 10 seconds. Thanks for your replies rayxi.
