Hey skid, you better not be runnin' AM/PM in that.........

What did we hook up to it last winter? Did I run INPA?

I don't remember. Then too, we're about the same age, so maybe you don't remember either?

Crap. Now I forgot what we were talkin' about. Sigh.......

Twinspappa- I am glad some one caught what I was saying. The OP missed it entirely.

Why would you replace the cam position sensors for misfires? That's a bit far fetched and pretty long down the list of things to look at when trouble shooting a misfire.

Start with the ignition system as indicated already. Swap the coil pack to another cylinder and the spark plug to a different one.

WOW! Thanks to you all for the help.
I just returned with an OE (BMW) CPS and put it in place of the Febi one I got. Installed it on the Driver's side - that's bank 1-4, yes? Cleared the codes before I tested it. Same problem.
And yes it was idling rough. As I added throttle and the rpm got to about 1500, the Check Engine Light started blinking. CODES are 3E & 34. The code 22 droped off (for now).
It was asking for a pre-cat O2 sensor intermittantly before this misfire stuff came up.
civdiv,
Thinking I need a more Gee Whiz Diagnostic tool. So I ordered the OBD2 & 20-pin connector cable kit to interface with my laptop. Then I will install that software we were using last winter. I do not recall what it is off hand. Will get back with you on this.
About the why am I doing the CPS for Mis fires, cuz a VANOS signal code is what started this whole thing. Now I am not certain what to think other than need more difinitive information.

Thanks to all

Can you look in your Peak tool booklet and translate the codes you are posting. No one here knows what codes 3E and 34 are. Most of us don't have the Peake tools either. Thanks.

Yes, of course.
3E is Multiple Cyl. Misfires (bank 5-8).
34 is Misfire Cyl. #4.

Now ignoring CPS & looking into ignition.
Thx

did you try swapping cyl 4 coil with cyl 1 for example. Check the plug?

Ah man. Hopefully the Indy can find the problem. Just to clarify, bank 1 is cyl 1-4 pass side or right side. Bank 2 is cyl 5-8 and is drivers side or left side.
