BMW Code 22 Help?

I just replaced the two Cam Position Sensors on the X5 (Model Year 2000, 4.4i, 166K mi.).
Had codes 3E & 34 before.
After installation have Same two codes plus code 22.
Can anyone provide me more information other than "Camshaft VANOS control Cyl#5-8".

While I am waiting for a reply I will be removing the VANOS solenoid on this bank (Passenger side, correct?) cleaning, reinstalling & checking the connections.

Where did you get said sensor? If you answer eBay, I say put old sensor back in and confirm the new sensor causing a new error.

Got it from AutohauseAZ. Already did some switching to confirm.
Issue must be more than the sensors.
Strange that it no longer is asking for the Pre-Cat O2 sensor any longer.
So I am ordering those patch cables for the GT-1 Program I have putting off for a year now.
Something is causing the misfires, I need to drill down a little more...

Care to post the description of those codes? I don't think I am alone in not wanting to waste my time looking them up, then offering advise.

Not asking for an O2 sensor yet...
And i doubt is say replace my o2 sensor please.
It might need an o2 sensor, but not just because the code says something about an o2 sensor.

DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) will be displayed based on the scanner (fault code reader) you are using. Different scanners have different capabilities and may/may not use standard OBD codes.

The automotive industry standardized OBD/OBD-II (On-Board Diagnostics) codes. Most often they are seen as "P" codes. So, people will be more familiar with these codes.

OBD-II Codes Defined

You need to translate those codes for us. I don't know if Peake uses the same codes for all their scanners (if they have more than one).

If its the same, then translated it would be:

22 = camshaft vanos control, cyl #5-8
3E = misfire random/multiple cylinders
34 = misfire cyl #4

Wow, quite a few people recently are hunting down misfires.

Basically you have a bunch of misfires mostly on one bank. The 22 code didn't appear until after you changed out the sensors. Maybe throw back the old sensors and see what happens.

If the 22 code disappears then throw out those sensors and, if they weren't OE, get OE sensors.

If you use a GT1 then it should have a test plan to follow.

Well at least it points him in the right direction. Sort of.

So it tells him that camshaft pos sensor on cyl 5-8, (driver side)

And then tells him cyl 4 is misfiring on pass side. How strange is that. I would start with cyl 4 either way. Swap the coil with another cylinder, and check the plug while you are there.

I just re-read what I wrote and thanks for the catch Dennis. I can't even interpret properly what I wrote.

He's only getting the sensor problem on one bank and probably only a misfire on one cylinder.

Teamwork. I couldn't figure out what type of code reader he was using. Even though it is stated right there. lol.
