PDC Kits for E53

Hi everyone,

I've just bought myself an Australian delivered 2005 E53 3.0d Sport with auto box.

It was delivered without PDC and it's something that I want to add.

Can anyone tell me if OEM BMW kits are available? If so where can you get them?

If not, is there a good after market kit which integrates with the car??

By the way, this looks like a great site. I can see me haunting it quite frequently for little titbits of info.

Thanks in advance,

Phil

If you want oe PDC function it will require alot of fabrication. From locating the rear and front bumper to wiring and a new control panel. You can get aftermarket kits that you can fit outside of the bumper, but may require some drilling to fish the wires. Most of the kits are for rear only. Most include an audible alert and led indicator of how far you are from an object. These kits will not integrate into the X, but will provide the same function.

A retrofit kit is available for around $900 (really need to shop for it) but as TTGTR noted it then takes a fair bit of install (I believe you use your bumpers but must drill). Look up your vehicle on RealOEM to get the right part number.

OR you can do this, which is much more economical. It's an OE retrofit kit => http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...3-pdc-mod.html

If you can find an OEM kit, installation is not that bad. I did it on mine. I did a write up for this but cannot currently find it in our site library. It's really not that bad at all. It does require front and rear bumper removal and cutting holes for the PDC sensors and holders but there are guides on the inside of the bumpers to follow. The kit comes with a replacement panel with the PDC button, sensors, speaker for rear sensors, and control unit.

The main thing is to verify that your X5 is pre-wired for it, otherwise it would be too involved. I recall that one easy verification is if you have xenon headlights you should have the wire prep.

I have a 2002 E53 and I did upgrade the standard equipment on this car:Install.kit, Park Distance Control

http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E5...tance_control/

First check the car's original wiring installation PDC preparation. My car has all the cables, so it's only about 2-3 hours labor to install PDC.
Front cables to the sensors was fixed under the headlamps and rear was folded near to the spare wheel. The PDC module is included in that kit.

NOTE: After installation, you must program modules (say the car to know that PDC is added)
