DEPO projector headlight

I need some clarification, if I buy from AES it should be plug and play right? for example I have factory Xenon so I assume the factory 35W D2S bulb goes right into the DEPO housing.

Also, no splicing of wiring etc for angel-eyes. correct? again I assume I click the switch once the angel-eye should be on, one more further click the main beam is on with angel eyes, OR NOT?

search depo headlights for this has been done before. you can order then on ebay which comes with the halos in them.no baking your headlights open required.as for the bulbs i can't say i know the compatibility off the top of my head.the thread should tell you though.

My experience, though mine includes adding ballasts:

The AEs -DO- splice in, so that they can operate with lock/unlock interior lights and the daytime running lights function, i.e., my AE's are DRL's. Else they would splice in to parking light wires, if that is your preference, but there is no plug to serve them nativly. DRL's is what my instructions described.
Not sure what AES is, sorry, but if you are pursuing AE facelift, don't forget the side markers and tail-lights - IMHO, it looks a little strange to have clears front and yellow/orange the rest of the way back, or the ghastly yellow bulbs showing through the clears.

I meant if I buy DEPO headlight from eas....
I guess I have to splice the wire (sort of speak) since I like the idea of AE to be on when park light/small-beam is on. My concern is it may throw code since that circuit is loaded with another bulb/LED now.

with all the acronyms that fly I wasn't sure if it was a company or AE plural, lol. As far as I know there is no diff in the Depo with AE conversion. The LED box is designed to not throw codes when installed as I described, the seller should be able to tell you, or may just refuse as that is not the intended application, not sure.
Guessing that your parking light circuit-to-OBC won't be happy..
mebbe diff parking lamp bulbs would solve..

Dude,
it's not very hard and it'd help to have some basic electronics, in summary:
1) look for ACC wire(one key turn on ignition for Accessories), on pre-facelift X5 2000-2003 it's the yelow/brown wire under the steering column bundled with many other wires. If you want a true DRL, AEs turn on with engine on, then I don't know which wire.
2)Splice the wire on step-1 above to power an automotive relay.
3)Tap the positive batt in engine bay with a fuse holder preferably, and run it to one of the relay contact terminal, the other one goes to your Depo AEs. Run both left and right AEs from the same relay (the power draw is only about 1.5Amp so one relay can handle the power easily).


PS: a relay is like a power switch so there are 4 terminals, +/- to power it, the pos goes to the ACC wire as in step 2 and the negative to the chasis of your X5. The other two terminals will be open in normal condition and close (contact) when the power (in your case when the key is turn on to acc position). One of this contact goes to batt and the other goes to AEs.

Thanks for the info! I have been reading as many threads dealing with this topic as I can... I'm don't have much knowledge or experience in this area but I think I have an understanding what needs to be done. I should be receiving my new headlights this week. Once I get them, I will look at the wire harness to see if I can figure out what goes where. I may need to follow up with additional questions.

FYI: I purchased the headlights from Umnitza.
