it seems that the BT antenna reception is not good.
was it like this all the time? or, there was some activity in the trunk area and this happened afterwards? What happens, when you walk away from the car's trunk, in the opposite direction of the vehicle's orientation? does the phone stay connected? Give us a bit more info on your car - E53, E70, OE or aftermarket bluetooth, retrofitted BT or factory installed...

Terminator, did you really ship your car around the world and drive it in : Car was driven in:
USA, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Russia, back to USA .. Not to hijack the thread here.. just noticed it. Compas, please add your car details in your signature so that anytime you ask a question you don't have to put your car info in... basically, year built, engine size, package if you have it..

Hi Guys,
Thank you for your reply, It's a BMW X5 2006 4.4i. I have added the Bluetooth module, Terminator when you walk away from the car in the opposite direction the phone disconnects.

Yes, the 4.6iS has been shipped from US in 2007 to Costa Rica, and I drove it there, on the PanAmerican highway (highway is just a name, in many places it is a dirt road!) from Managua to Panama City a few times... Cierra de la Muerte (a bypass to PanAm hwy in Costa Rica) is a bitch to drive on... lol...
In 2009 the car was shipped from CR, via Miami to Antwerp and then to Russia, and then in 2010 it went back to US... Compas, was this always the case? when you first installed the BT, was it working properly? check the connections and the termination of the coax cable - if the cable is not properly terminated or if the shielding is shorting to the core wire (even one strand) it will seriously diminish the range of the signal... The BT antenna should have the shiny bottom surface (If i remember correctly!), is that surface in proper touch with the metal bracket? Since your phone is pairing in close proximity, that means that there is a signal to pair to, but the range seems to be too short, so it needs to be investigated... |

When first installed the ringing sound was not clear and muffled, it only connected when the phone was placed directly over the centre console. The Bluetooth antenna looks like its installed at rear left compartment over the left wheel I managed to pull the cushion from the left rear seat next to the seat belt out to locate the BTA. The Bluetooth antenna appears to be black and bolted to the chassis of the car.

is there enough slack on the BT antenna to relocate it to a higher "ground"? The antenna is transmitting in horizontal plane, and higher it is, more chances that it will clear other "in-car" obstacles... in my 4.6 it was placed on the top of the rack that houses the CD changer and the Nav Computer, there were two welded screws at the top of the bracket that the antenna just fitted in perfectly and then two plastic nuts were used to secure it... Do you have that barcket and if you have the bracket, does the bracket have the two screws weldd on top surface of the braket?

My bracket has two holes in it, there are no screws welded on it. I have taken a photo of the antenna and its location For you to look at.

part # 65256906070 is not a BT antenna, it is an amplifier for TV antenna... or, I am looking at a wrong item on the picture?
part # 84506928461 (about $25) should be a correct BT antenna. plug that number into the RealOEM and see how it looks like... could it be that your real BT antenna is buried somewhere else inside the car? |

You are looking at the right picture, I don't think the antenna is there at all, if thats the case and will upurchase a new one and see how that goes.
