Buy a nice, barely used 3 or 4 yr old 600 cc Scoot...it will put your eyeballs into the back of your head, and walk your X in first/second gear all the way down the road.
Seriously, how much 'faster' do you need your 2.5+ ton X to 'go'? Pipes maybe, to sound better? You still humping at GerMotorWerks? We gotta hook up... GL, mD

cut the resonators out and put an x-pipe in place. Will sound faster and that's all that matters here since you're not winning any races anytime soon.
Spend the rest on the worst 4 bushings you can find, LOL ![]()

This makes me kind of wonder what Alpina did in designing the 4.6 motor to generate WAY more increased HP than the 9.5% increase in displacement produced. I'm sure there are those here who could list the differences (please do!), but I wonder how much is just purely programming changes. And how many of those changes could be replicated on a 4.4 engine.

probably cams and compression, but people get way too caught up in all this Alpina talk like it relates to what we got in US X5s.

The BEST way to spend 1k to make your X faster, easy, enroll in a high performance driving school. I did Skip Barber (E30 M3s) and Bob Bondurant in the early 90s. Best money I ever spent on performance, and this is from someone who had John Henessey do the full Venom package on their Viper.

$1,000 won't buy you any performance for the X5. I'm not being snide; I'm serious. Come to think of it, $5,000 won't buy you any performance. Ok, maybe you can spend $8,000 and get all the Dinan kit - which will net you something like 30hp to the crank - so, about, 20 to the wheels. That's $400 per horsepower that you won't even feel because the truck is too heavy for 20hp to make a difference.
Spend the $1,000 on maintenance, preventative maintenance, any plastic trim pieces or clips that need replacing, minor body imperfection correction, etc. |
