I don't agree with any of that. These filters add dyno-proven power; not a huge amount, but they do work. As far as fouling the MAF sensor, I've had a K&N filter on two different cars from new, and both now have over 160k with no issues.

You simply need to follow the K&N cleaning kit instructions when cleaning and re-oiling at normal service intervals. Don't over-oil.

I would check with Dinan if the K&N cleaning/oil kit is what they recommend.
