Should be 100% plug and play. I installed an auto-dimming mirror with compass in my 3.0i non-sport, non-premium. Works fine.

edit: should have read the entire thread; looks like you've already determined that, lol.

I have a 2003 X5 4.6is. Would love to retrofit to a 06 mirror with the clown nose red alarm light , plus compass, and auto dimming if possible. Does anyone have success in the retrofit? Any instructions?

All I did was remove the old LED mirror and install the new EC/LED/Compass mirror. Works perfectly.

Honestly Maruzo, it takes less that 5 minutes. Remove the plastic housing around the base by splitting it down the middle, twist the mirror 90 degrees to the right and it comes right off. Then simply disconnect the wiring connector. Installation in reverse.

You may need to recalibrate the compass part of the mirror "area zone" depending on where the mirror came from. I think there are 9 or 10 across the USA.

Actually, you're supposed to gently BUMP the mirror off it's base by striking it toward the windshield...then twist it back on when time to remount. This prevents damaging the spring mechanism that holds the mirror to the base.

The mirror is designed to easily separate from the base when bumped...so that in an accident...it doesn't become an object that an occupant can become impaled upon. If it is hit with any type of force...it breaks away from the base.

These are the BMW instructions...which apply not only to the type below...but also the mirrors with the larger base that contains the rain sensor, too. Just remove all the stuff from around the base...then bump the mirror off the base:

Did this on mine; it was plug and play. You need option SA 521 (rain sensor), SA430 or SA431 (auto-dipping mirrors), and without SA875 (infrared remote).

Here are the BMW EBA retrofit instructions, with details for setting the compass region:

Installed the compass mirror the other night. Thanks to everybody's instructions. The install was easy and took only 20 minutes.

The hardest part was putting the mirror back. I got the mirror handle close to the base on the windshield at a 45% angle and tried a few times to twist and close it. Took a few tries before the prongs finally caught and sealed tight.

One thing that bothers me is the compass readout has 3 digits. The led outline looks like Fahrenheit readouts.

Does anyone know if there's other functions on the mirror other than compass readout?
