Sorry to hear dude. I'd part it out. No way will it ever be the same. Let me know how much you want for it. I have a friend that might be interested.

Yea call FEMA either way. They set up shop on McDonald, by the old social security office. I hear they are getting people cars.

I honestly think people were surprised by the surge. Most didn't think it would be this Epic. I know a few people that managed to outrun the water, but I know a lot more that said they thought it was overhyped and thought they were safe. I guess this is a lesson for most people.

Just liablity. And the minimum required for liablity is SO much lower than what any sensible person in our litigious society should carry.

OK, I saw this coming.
1. my truck is parked indoors most of time.
2. i do not live in a flood zone area. my area was not expected to flood.
3. i only have a little over 50k on my truck. needless to say its parked most of the time. All summer I ride my motor bike.
4. Hurricane Sandy is the first of its kind in OVER 100 YEARS, so unless you were living in the 18th century no one expected something like this.
5. I am a firm believer in not wasting time and money, so for those who believe in paying a load of $ in insurance for a vehicle that is rearly ever used ---- I will not.
I have to admit that i had full coverage on it until june and took it off because it was going to be parked up for an extended period and to not have to turn in my plates i have to keep insurance on it. So to those who dont know me, my situation, my business, and think that now is a good opportunity to exercise their ability to try and belittle and show how smart or stupid or ignorant they are, let me say (when the right shoe is on the left foot) then you'll understand.
If you dont get it at different levels i hope you get it at ONE

Hey, man.

Like I said, I wasn't trying to piss on you or your UTTERLY UNFORTUNATE situation. I was simply agreeing with Skyline that comprehensive insurance isn't that much considering your car could always get stolen from anywhere. But I digress. Like I said, I was just agreeing on the objective fact and was not trying to take a stab at you in any way whatsoever.

I think I speak on behalf of the great majority of members here when I say that I feel for you and wish you the very best.

Now, just a quick option you might consider. You could always strip the shell, rinse and clean everything off with water and then sell off those parts. You could make back several thousand dollars that way instead of selling the thing for scrap. Just a suggestion.

Sorry you lost a nice car, but I still don't understand why you think comprehensive coverage is a waste of money. You live in one of the HIGHEST auto theft areas in the country. I lived in Brooklyn for ten years; I had one BMW keyed, one attempted theft, and another stolen from the sidewalk in front of my house while I slept without a trace. Avoiding comprehsive coverage is not a great idea, especially in Brooklyn.

And you can say no one expected the degree of storm surge, but I do remember warnings two days before the eye hit land to expect twelve foot surge above normal full moon high tide. I remember seeing maps on the Weather Channel prior to the storm, showing showing big parts of the city, including areas of Brooklyn, expecting flooding. Brooklyn is, after all, almost surrounded by water.

Obviously hindsight is 20/20, but these were not the best choices you made, and others here should take a lesson from that. It's better safe than sorry when it comes to major storms. I am sympathetic to your loss; I lost a couple of BMWs myself where I was not fully insured, so I know your pain. One was rolled on a racetrack, and I'm not sure you can get insurance to pay for that without fraud. The other was a restored classic BMW that was stolen, (from Brooklyn,) that turned out to only have actual cash value coverage, when I had requested what I now know to be stated value coverage. The race car was a risk I always knew was there that I really could not insure, the other was a learning experience in terms of insurance for me. Each one was a loss similar to the value of your X.

Flood insurance is quite inexpensive for those not in flood zones, and many more homeowners should have this coverage than do today. Unless you live on top of a big hill, it's not a bad thing to have. (BTW, no homeowner's insurance will cover a car in a home garage if the garage is destroyed, and neither will flood insurance; that's where your auto insurance comprehensive comes in). And if you're in a flood zone, there's simply no excuse for not having flood insurance, unless you are so rich you can afford the loss. The whole idea of any insurance is to avoid losses that you can not afford. Self insure what you can afford; ie take hefty deductibles to keep coverage in place.

He is not in the flood zone, and it is a 100 year storm. My neighborhood is also not in the flood zone, and all the people from the flood zone moved to our hood. Water stopped half a block from my house. Where exactly do you expect 3 million people to go?

I had to fight with my insurance company to get flood insurance added to my properties. It is not as easy as you think. If they deem you not part of flood zone, you are going to have to fight to add it. They know they will lose money. In flood zones, they have no choice and must offer it, or they cannot sell there.

I have an X5 that is dead due to epic engine failure, and that car is not going anywhere, it is parked in the driveway - I have it insured only for the COMPREHENSIVE coverage, in case if the tree falls, or if someone takes a key to it... not sure, if the flood is covered though...

I had E39 parked for about 3 years, while we were overseas, i had the car insured for the same comprehensive... it is only a few bucks a year
