Buying a 03 x5 m series,need advice.

i used to have about 4 x5,and now i am looking to buy again other one...

found one :

2003 bmw x5 (he say that is the M series)
with gps (is this with dvd maps?)
67.000 miles
black on black /leather 4.6i engine.
always garaged...

price 16000$ (from the 18000 $ that he originally wanted for it)


what you guys think?
price?...okay,too much?

and i never had a x5 M series, are this any good?

there was no M series in the X5 lineup in 2003.. what he is referring to is probably 4.6iS (you said, 4.6i engine), which is as close to an M as the X5 in E53 body ever got (4.8iS is the evolution of the 4.6iS) other than that, the price point for the mileage sounds on par with other people were asking for it... of course, it heavily depends on the condition of the car...

Ask him to "click" on setting inthe main menu of the Nav screen and tell you the numbers in top right corner of the screen - they should read something to the effect of 3-1/63, or 4-1/00... if the number starts with 3 - it is a CD based Nav, if it starts with 4 - it is a DVD based NAv...

pics and more details, I'd be wary of a guy trying to tell you "its the M series" when its really a 4.6is.

I mean we are all enthusiasts here so we know that the 4.6is was the X5 ///M before it existed, but calling something an ///M to a potential buyer who quite honestly might not know the differences between models sounds more like an upsell technique no?

Or am I looking into this too much?

the 4.6is is a seriously souped up 4.4i - with about all available options as standard (options were NAv, sliding floor, rear airbags, retrofittable ones were tow package, step rail (i forgot the formal name), euro options, like TV)

Nice looking 4.6 for sure. Fairly low miles, I think the truck is definitely priced right in the $16k range.

What you need to worry about now is the maintenance history. There are key items that are prone to failure, like the transmission, see if the owner has any receipts.

You should really research the 4.6 and make sure it's the right choice for you. They are pretty rare birds, but a nice upgrade from the 4.4.
