Had the same thing yesterday while "putting the pedal to the metal..." 160 km/h, floored it to make a pass and then got the failsafe program. Called 2 BMW Dealers & one transmission specialist, both said that "this can happen" no worries...
Let's hope they are right and it doesn't come back.

Thanks Litsie. It seems it can happens without being related to a real fault and it is caused by a diversity of reasons. It may be a bug in the software too or extra sensitivity when comparing gear input and output ratio.
