I would suspect it is the slider on the rail catching one of the flares on the rail... Happened to me in the 540i... You just have to go up crazy slowly (that is a technical term for really really really really slowly).... Find what doesn't have any wiggle when it stops moving... It sounds like the front one might be hanging up on the rail... Try to wiggle everything as it is moving up... Blip the up button as you do... Let us know what you discover... Good luck!! Cheers!!!

Well, here again, my work internet is keeping me from looking up the research info I need to share with you... So, I'll try to explain with 10,000 words...
You have a couple options... You can try to free up what is binding by ALMOST removing the hardware that keeps the regulator in the door... It might allow things to move just enough to get the window moving in the correct direction... You could remove the regulator mounting hardware completely and try to get the window to move in the correct direction (SLOWLY; Blip the UP button)... You could just cut the wire rope cables holding the window in place and get the mounting points to their up position and tie things off securely until a replacement regulator is found.... You can drive to S.C. and I will help you out... (Well, I guess a local buddy or shop would be the better option here)... Oh, leave things as they are until the replacement parts are obtained and then just cut the cables and pull the regulator and parts out... It might be a good idea to get the mounting hardware just in the off chance it breaks like mine did... This stuff here... Picture and auction used as reference only... 2000-2006 BMW X5 Left or Right Front Window Regulator Clips/Glass Mounting Clips | eBay Pelican Parts has a good tech article with crazy huge pictures... Some you can't do cause the glass will not move, but you can see how things work... BMW X5 Front Window Regulator Replacement | E53 (2000-2006) | Pelican Parts DIY Maintenance Article Good luck!! Cheers!!!

It sounds like the "typical" and known failure of the plastic clip at the bottom of the window. A small piece breaks off and the glass panel no longer travels up the channel like it is supposed to. It is tilted slightly towards the back of the door. Grab a flat head screw driver and place its tip in the channel between the corner of the glass and the channel itself, in essence pushing it slightly forward (so it is squared with the track) and activate the button. The window should now roll up freely. All you need is for it to travel about a 1/2", and you can remove the screw driver. Once it's up you should be able to access the plastic clip at the bottom. There are a few online sellers (flee bay) that sell an improved version of the clip (1/2 metal, 1/2 plastic). Get a pair (passenger & driver) as the other one is sure to fail!
