Valvetronic intermediate lever problem..

I have the same issue with mine.

I just hold the revs around 1500rpm until the temp needle starts to move, after that it idles normally. I've learned to live with it over the cost of repairing it as it has no effect on driveability once the engine reaches operating temp.

Welcome to the cold, cruel world of BMW X5 ownership, unfortunately you'll probably spend more time here on the site than you care to. On the bright side, the Cayenne probably would've been worse as far as reliability goes...lol!

Hi Brandon, just curious if you did the Valve cover Gasket repaired? Bcause the day after my repairs and since, I do not have the issue coming back. it's been almost a month now. Very cold here for March (-20) .... Sounds like i have both problem and only one fixed....i'll report back if that bloody thing come back

I have new valve cover gaskets in the garage, it's just been too cold to work on the car for the past few months. I plan on doing it as soon as it warms up a little.

Really we are a special kind of stupid to own a car that valve cover gaskets are a 1000 dollar job.

89 mustang 300,000 miles before needed and 1 cam follower 150 bucks at dealer.

The VCG replacement job is under $150 (with genuine BMW parts) when DIYed, simple repair.

My DIY parts costs last year were around 2 grand, would have been over 10 grand at the dealer.

The estimates are way off for just replacing VCG gasket and seals, might be your plastic Valve cover is warped (not re-usable) then I agree with the cost closer to 1k.

Parts (vcg profile gaskets and 15 rubber seals) - approx less than or slightly above 100USD

Labor : INDY (3hrs book time; eg 100/hr=300), DIY ( your time, tools)

Roughly: 400usd -parts and labor
100usd (parts and DIY)
