Engine misfiring with P0300 code

I know a lot has been said about this issue...i have had this problem with my 2005 4.4 ever since I owned it. it has 75k miles on it.BMW has worked on it 4 times and performed all major repairs including intermediate levers. I believe BMW spent at least $15k under warranty. Last repair was done in 02/11. Last winter , I had one minor misfiring issue. check engine light didnt turn on. so I ignored it. Two weeks ago, i had engine misfiring episode again on a cold morning. engine light turned on. It has been running fine since then though. This morning I took it to autozone--error code was p0300--which, as most of you already know, means random engine misfire.

I dont want to spend thousands on repairs when it seems repairs dont work. What would be the best thing to do at this point. should I take it to dealership and have them check the codes in detail and possibly do they repairs if it points to any minor issue? Do they sell any code scanners that can give me detailed errors codes like a BMW scanner would do?

Alternatively, should I just gets the check engine light removed and forget about the issue. I noticed in a related post someone had done that with a bluetooth code reader. I have an aftermarket avic- z100 in the truck now. would this tool work with my x5. I am hoping it has nothing to do with radio bluetooth.

thanks very much in anticipation.

See this thread for scanners that will work with our X.

http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...i-scanner.html

Since it's a random misfire and not a specific cylinder that is misfiring I would rule out spark plugs, coil packs and injectors.

What causes random misfire? Lean condition such as low fuel pump pressure, vacuum leaks, clogged fuel filter and sometime the MAF if it is dirty or has water on it.

What have the stealers done for 15,000? Do you have the repairs bill indicating what's been done to try and cure this problem.

If you can list the repairs, we can see if it might be something else instead of chasing our tail.

Why wouldn't you just bring the vehicle back to the dealer? If the last repair was 02/2011, then the vehicle is still under parts warranty if its the same issue.

I thought warranty was only for 12 months...if the warranty is for more than 12 months, then will certainly take it to dealer.

I have records of the repairs...have to find them ... I remember they replaced intermediate levers twice....

01/08/2010 - 01-18-2010 - Minimum Lift Adjusted
03/10/2010 - 04/02/2010 - Intermediate Levers and Shafts Replaced
03/16/2011 - 04/09/2011 - Crankcase Vent Valves and Spark Plugs Replaced
04/14/2011 - 05/20/2011 - Intermediate Levers and Shafts Replaced Again, Warranty Replacement

Looks like you still have converage/warranty for this issue until 04/14/2013, do not pay for any of future repairs up until 04/14/2013. If they want to charge you for anything to fix the check engine lamp, or misfires, alert your service advisor that you will be consulting your attorney for breach of warranty contract. You should also request that the $50 deductible paid on 03/16/2011 - 04/09/2011, to be refunded.

Can replacement intermediate levers fail that soon? The levers that were replaced in 2010 were replaced again in 2011, and now they need to be replace again?

Glad I didn't buy a V8. Why is it that older V8 doesn't have this problem?
