was i ripped off

hello let me try to make this fast i needed to change the fan clutch on my x5 so i searched the part number on realoem.com i got the part number and ordered the part when i went to put it in it was to big it didnt fit in the fan so i took the part number off of the one i have and re ordered it and sent the other one back but then i typed in the part number of the one i have on realoem and it shows that the part number is for a 7 series now what i wanna know is it possible that the guy that sold me the x5 replace the motor and not told me?

Not likely.

It is more likely that your look-up skills or your parts source's transcription skills failed you. Where did you buy it from?

Was the PO the original owner of the X? Did you get a carfax before buying the car? I would say that you got rip off if you brought a V8 and the engine in the car was a 6.

i bought it from an old man private sale he said the x was sitting in the cottage for like 5 yrs

well the old man i bought it from said he was original owner..and that was my mistake not getting a carfax.. and if it was a v6 that would suck but i know it is a V8 100%

Your serial number is listed as a 2000 model, not a 2001.

The fan clutch is listed as requiring a matching fan. Did you order the matching fan? Perhaps it was changed up in the parts system, and has a different bore but the same outside diameter.

yeah it was made 04/2000 came out for 2001 model .. and well the fan broke on me so the shop ordered the fan but not the fan clutch he told me to order it my self and then he would put it in
