Silicone spray looks good for a short time when you put it on, isn't generally considered good for rubber. Realize that use of silicone will void any warranty for cracked sidewalls on your tires (due to UV damage, as silicone removes the UV stabilizers).

Hi JCL, I've never heard of the tire warranty issue. Where can I find this information? I use silicone under the car where UV is not the problem. I have read that ozone and road salts are the major contributors to rubber breakdown. I have used silicone on cars that I have had for many years and 100's of thousands of miles without any known problems.

Warning: Silcone spray if it gets anywhere near door seals allows the rubber to lose 'grip' and then doors start to move ever so slightly...then you get all sorts of rattles and squeaks!!! Sometimes rubber is there because it's mean't to STICK not SLIDE.
This has been documented as a particular problem for protective paint coatings...you know the sort 'DiamondBrite' etc., etc., where a new car is provided a protective coating...and YES it really does protect the paint, and YES it really does give you a sparkling finish by washing with no polish...BUT it also gives you squeaky doors...as does any lubricant if it gets anywhere near seals that are mean't to STICK not SLIDE... Silicone does protect rubber...but also lubricates... |

Aerospace 303 Protectant is a much better and diff. prod, imo.
DuPont also makes a gel prod for weather stripping, that the boyz on the CorvetteForum rave about. I have used both...both are very, very good. Cannot remember the DuPont prod name to save my fanny and it's in my garage 770 miles north. I'd skip the silicone, but use whatcha like. My 2Cts. GL,md
