Sounds about right. Even in the memory of my mind's eye (of my 99 540iT)...the X5 rails seem to be a bit further apart.

Hopefully the racks (cross bars) you won will be adjustable like the ones in z168's photos above...if so, you may have got a great deal. Here's hoping that they are adaptable to the e53.

Old bars are adjustable, but they are still too short for a X5, maybe a X3. I have the same bar and they were too short for my X5, that's is why I brought a set of Rola.
