2001 4.4 Tranny

hello all well i got some bad news today from my mechanic i brought it in for an oil change and ball joint replacement and i had a leak coming from the transmission heat exchanger the mechanic said one of the pipe was leaking but he also said that there was shaving of metal in the transmission oil is there anyway of fixing this or is the tranny just gonna brake with new way to fix ?

my 4.6is is getting it,s transmission rebilt as e speak to thr tune of $4200,which is a great price.

damn see atleast your is a 4.6 is more rear so its worth putting the $4200 i just dont know if its worth pustting the much on my 4.4 even tho the kms are pretty low i just dont know what to do my mechanic is telling me to sell the truck and its not worth fixing it .. but the funny thing is my tranny feels fine to me he said it feels good now but in 3 months it wont be good .. i dont know if i should go to a different mechanic and get a second look?
