Thanks for the response. I'll have to get the fault from the shop; I think they performed a reset though I'll verify. Fluid was changed around around 72k.

Adaptations need to be reset at the time of fluid change on Xdrive models in case you didnt know or didnt have it done

Long story short, use DIS scan tool. In the last 2 years the intermittent trifecta which would come on, and reset at the next drive cycle was cumbersome but didn't really effect me. About a month ago I wanted it gone for good.

I sent my ABS module for a rebuild (prevenatively and I thought it might be my issue) and after receiving back I had received 2 random trifectas since then. So I hooked up DIS. THE ONLY CODE I HAD ON MY ABS MODULE was 2 codes for Brake Light Switch.

Bought a new one from the dealer, installed on Saturday morning 2 weeks ago and installed. Has not been back since.

In my case the trifecta was a Brake Light Switch ($33) from BMW needing replaced.
$33 switch... Wow

Thanks for the update! I am debugging the trifecta on mine right now with the guidance of some really cool folks on this forum.

Its definitely something needing the BMW software to diagnose and fix properly.

Thanks. I'm sure they would have done adaptations as they are an experienced BMW indy. Plan to talk to them again today.

Wondering Solution to the 5A code.

Just wondering if you had ever figured out the 5A code (090 Dec). I've got a similar code now. Was doing a quick DIAG before I noticed this tread. No speed sensor codes or steering angle codes. Steering angle does change +/- angle. I'll have to test drive the speed sensors tomorrow.

Just wondering if you figured this one out..

I should have had thread title fixed.

My problems were solved by replacing the $28 Brake Light Switch behind the brake pedal as that was the recurring code that came back. If you only have a 5A code - I would be thinking to rebuild the module (I also did that prior to replacing the brake light switch)

No other codes. Communicates fine. Just the 5A code that wont clear, and the 3 lights on cluster. Never come across this one. All modules communicate otherwise, just strange. Gonna load test my battery, check voltage drops and battery voltage while starting.

Just thought you may have come across it. DSC sees brake command on/off.

I would suspect that you may need a rebuilt module - if you have a Bosch 5.7 its easy to remove and send to one of the rebuilders for $100

Rookie X5 Owner Confirming my trifecta issue

First off, I've been all over this forum for the last 2 weeks. You guys are awesome! Would never have pulled the trigger on my 03 4.4i without reading through here.

So...I've had the trifecta a few times as well. In my case, my speedometer doesn't move. From what I'm reading here, it seems that's a rear wheel speed sensor? If so I will dig in and see what's involved in the DIY fix. If it's "above my pay grade", what can I expect to see by taking it to one of the smaller shops?

Thanks and absolutely LOVING this ride! First BMW and definitely enjoying it!
