Even with the hot climate my X is subjected to run in (TX and FL) I use the Mobil [1] 0-40 European Car oil. Iv'e seen the OBC outside temp showing over 120 deg F while towing a 6k lb trailer in stop and go hwy construction traffic many times (AC on Max too). With over 160k miles everything is OK (even OE timing chain guides). Can't understand those who run higher weight oils in these engines.

I had this exact same issue and my indy changed the fuel filter(supposedly it contains the fuel pressure regulator inside) and since I have not had the issue of long cranking starts. Mine has 100k and when we pulled the fuel filter out we had noticed the old filter was the same Mahle filter I was replacing it with. I assume a common problem on some of these.

OK, well it looks like its back to changing the fuel filter and FPR....
Problem is back randomly...not as bad as before, but still occasional long cranks....and for no apparent reason!
I can leave the car over night...bam starts real quick.
Drive to work, check emails, drive to meeting 10 minutes later....Cranking for 3-5 seconds...

How long would you run the Mobil 1 oil in your X?

The prior owner had the dealer do changes according to the SII (Service Interval Indicator), so the X had BMW oil approx every 15k miles for the first 100k miles. I switched to the Mobil [1] 0-40 EuroCar oil when I bought it and I change it when the SII has 2 green bars still lit, around 7k miles on the oil.

I don't have the long starts anymore, but it does have a tendancy to hiccup on occasional starts and I feel the fuel filter/fpr probably only is masking the real problem, and it's only a matter of time before I feel the problem reoccurs. I'm beginning to think bmw's are a bunch of junk and should've got something else. I hope I'm wrong.
