As it stands--no phone will pair with your 2005 4.8. Your phone pairs with the M5. What year is your M5? Does either phone pair with the the 2006 4.8 or the 3.0? What year is the 3.0? Pairing instructions have changed since Bluetooth was first offered. Still not the easiest thing to do but easier than the introduction. As an example, later models don't ask for the car bluetooth pass key they ask for the phone pass key, that is the source of the 0000 and 1234 iPhone default suggestions. If your phone pairs with the M5 suggest you pair your wife's phone and write that process down and keep it in the glove box. Let's get something accomplished. Take your time and be sure the manual process works as written or what you wrote down is exactly what you did. I usually don't resolve problems like this on the first try so when I have found the solution I may not be exactly sure of what I did. I have gotten to the point that I write down every attempt so I can be sure I have a list I can use for process of elimination. Compare the telephone instructions in the 2006 4.8 from those you wrote down for the M5. They may have changed but it is likely they will be close enough to the M5 that you can pair both phones Then lets go to the source of your frustration the 2005 4.8. Compare what you wrote down for the M5 and 2006 4.8 to the instructions that are in your manual and to those earlier in the thread by Qsilver7 and hopefully pairing instructions for the 2005 will make sense from your success with the other vehicles. If not, please post what you tried on the 2005 that didn't work.

Need some clarification. Do both you and your wife have iPhones?

Thank you for the reply. The M5 is 2008, 3.0 2006 and the wife's 4.8is is 2006. I never paired any of our phones to these vehicles. I had my srvice advisor paired the phones to these vehicle. So, when i purchased the 2005 4.8is back in September I naturally brought it to my service advisor and he too could not get the iphone(s) to paired. Since then i have not looked into the BT until yesterday. I have tried the methods suggested in this thread and among other threads in the BT section. I dont like to give up on things. Always researched for solutions to resolve various issues. However, the BT on this 2005 4.8is really testing my patience limits.

I understand your frustration. Recently I had to work on an electrical problem that should have taken a few minutes. Two days later and several breaks because I was about to explode I found the problem.
I suggest starting with the newest vehicle. Does it have nav? Do you have the instructions from telephone manual? Try to pair both phones. If you can't, either have your service advisor do so and write it down. If they did it before they can do it again. If that can't or doesn't happen for some reason, can you copy and post instructions from your M5 telephone manual so we can put them into plain english? Then we will move on to the two 2006's.

We no longer have the 3.0. With the 2008 M5 and 2006 4.8is. My service advisor was able to paired the phone(s) within minutes without any hiccups. The 3.0 we bought brand new and the salesman had no issues pairing the phones. I was out there for hours yesterday trying without success and gave up. I just cleared the phones on my M5 and paired without any issues. I just went to my Idrive and cleared the paired phones and paired the phone again thru the Idrive without issues.

Great!!! So the M5 is done and you either were able to follow the manual instructions or wrote it down. I don't recall seeing in the telephone manual that if a phone stops pairing to delete it and start over. Make sure you note that if the manual does not. I have had a phone stop pairing and that was the only way I found to correct it. I assume the M5 asked for your iPhone passkey rather than the car's bluetooth passkey?
Is your wife's phone available to pair with the M5? Or can you try pairing either phone to the 2006 4.8?

As I have stated previously. I did not havd issues pairing the phones to either the M5 or 2006 4.8is. I just tried it on the M5 to see how easy the process was. Its a simple process thru the Idrive. The 2005 4.8is a completely different beast. So, frustrated now.

Sorry I misunderstood. All you can do is take a deep breath and clear you mind of everything you have tried on the 2005 4.8. First, if you go to settings on the navigation controls does it show phone? If it does press it and see what it shows. If not, follow the posted directions of Qsilver7 and let me know how far you get. Try the process with key at the first click and if that doesn't work the second and then start it up and try it. Per instructions if it works with the key at any position you will only be able to see the the X5 searching on your phone for a short period of time.

Does it show bluetooth or phone on the screen under computer if your nav. has that option? Bear with me, I am trying to help you like I would if I was there and trying to figure it out together.
